Heartbreaking News on UPS Incident: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The total count of victims due to the freight aircraft which burst into flames and went down has now risen to 13, per latest announcements.

Official's Remarks

“On my way to the Union’s candlelight gathering, I learned of a thirteenth victim that passed away as a consequence of the plane crash,” wrote the city mayor in a public communication. “My thoughts are with the loved ones, associates and peers of all who were lost in this recent disaster. We will get through this together.”

Victims Confirmed

An announcement from the company listed the officers on board the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts are extended to each employee who has been impacted and all in our community area – helping you and making sure you obtain the care and aid you need is our priority,” the organization’s statement read.

Probe Details

Federal authorities disclosed that the freight aircraft’s left wing caught fire and an power plant separated just after takeoff from the aviation hub, causing the jet to plummet and explode into a fireball.

The NTSB has said it is examining the plane’s maintenance history, which was in Texas for maintenance weeks before the crash.

Flight tracking information indicated the jet was on the ground in that location from 3 September to 18 October.

“We are aware that this plane was present in the facility,” said an investigator on the following day, not giving a exact time frame. “We will examine each aspect of service that was performed, from the San Antonio time, right up to the day of the flight.”

Recovery of Critical Components

The pilot’s recorder and data recorder were found, and the engine was found on the tarmac.

The units – known as black boxes – were constructed to survive crash impacts and intense heat from infernos, and they appeared to be intact when discovered within the crash debris. Investigators plan on examining data from the black boxes.

Aircraft’s concluding flight details indicated an altitude of that level and a rate of 210 miles per hour prior to the impact.

Repair Record

Per Federal Aviation Administration files from 18 September, a fissure on a component inside the center wing fuel tank required maintenance.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which stated it supplies structural repairs for UPS’s aircraft and runs a maintenance center in that city, refused to comment, but stated it would cooperate fully when officials approached it.

Operations Restart

At the same time, the facility operations restarted that evening with its Next Day Air or nighttime procedure, representative Jim Mayer confirmed. The three landing strips at the airport were additionally back in operation.

The distribution hub in this location is the organization’s biggest. The hub hires more than a large number of individuals in the area, processes three hundred trips daily and processes more than 400,000 packages an hour.

Community Response

A candlelight vigil was organized on the evening of that date by the area labor union, which represents employees at the aviation hub, the organization’s biggest air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which represents employees, started the memorial with a period of reflection at the evening hour, the approximate time of the accident two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so unexpected, so surprising,” the mayor addressed the crowd of two hundred. “No one had a moment to part to any of those who we have mourned.”
