PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

However, Marseille struck twice late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
